Calendar Changes
2026-2027
2027-2028
On June 4, 2025 the Indiana Department of Education kicked off the collaborative process to refocus school accountability. As a part of that process the department of education will be focusing on the following lifelong success metrics, which will be used to determine letter grades for schools:
Academic Mastery
Career and Postsecondary Readiness
Communication and Collaboration
Work Ethic
Civic, Financial, and Digital Literacy
In response to this initiative, the calendar committee met this Fall to reshape the academic calendar to better position our students to achieve academic mastery during the school year. The outcome of this and the surveys that were sent out to stakeholders was to focus on creating limited downtime for students during the school year. A couple of key focus areas emerged:
- A shortened Fall Break to help students stay acclimated to the classroom environment in the Fall.
- A 1 week Spring Break to allow our younger students to have more preparation time for the IRead test and for all other tested grades to prepare for ILearn.
- Building in time at the end of the school year to limit the number of eLearning and virtual instruction days if there are a number of cancellations due to inclement weather.
Functionally, the 2026/2027 and 2027/2028 calendar were built with these components in mind. I thank the hard work and thoughtfulness of the committee on working through the changes to the calendar and really staying focused on what is best for our students as we move forward through the next two school years.
